よ and ね: telling vs checking

Sentence-ending particles that add feeling: よ tells, ね shares.
要点The idea
よ tells the listener something new (“you know”), and ね checks something you share (“right?”).
kono michi, abunai desu yo.This road's dangerous, you know.
ame, yoku furimasu ne.It really keeps raining, doesn't it?Classic small talk: the weather plus ね.
You're coming tomorrow, right? I think so, just checking.
ashita wa yasumi da yo.Tomorrow's a day off, you know.They might not know.
ashita wa yasumi da ne.Tomorrow's a day off, right?You both know; you're sharing it.
よ hands information over. ね reaches for agreement. Using よ when you both already know can sound pushy.
  1. A
kono keeki, oishii yo. tabete mite. This cake's good, you know. Try it.
  2. B
おいしい ね!...honto da. oishii ne!…You're right. It's good!
A has tasted it and tells B with よ. Once B has tasted it too, they share it with ね.
