から・まで

から and まで: from … until

Start and end points in time and space — plus から as “because”.

から marks the starting point (from), and まで the end point (until, or as far as).

kuji kara goji made hatarakimasu.I work from nine to five.

ie kara eki made aruita.I walked from home to the station.

igirisu kara kimashita.I'm from the UK.Literally: I came from the UK.

Agoji kara hataraku.I work from five.

Bgoji made hataraku.I work until five.

One particle moves the whole shift: から starts it at five, まで ends it there.

から after a sentence: because

atsui kara, mado o akete.It's hot, so open the window.The reason comes first, then から, then the result.

Asking about opening hours, just the time + まで or から does the job: “until what time?”, “from what time?”.

2“The concert starts at seven”: コンサートは七時(しちじ)しちじ＿です。
3“Please come by three”: 三時(さんじ)さんじ＿来(き)きてください。
4“It's cold, so I'll close the window”: 寒(さむ)さむい＿、窓(まど)まどを閉(し)しめます。
